Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Company Health Check?

The Nexus Company Health Check is a structured one-day diagnostic assessment designed to give business leaders a clear, objective view of their operational and financial readiness. Tony spends a full day with your leadership team, reviewing financials, operations, systems, and structure, then delivers a RAG-rated diagnostic report, a prioritised action roadmap, and a Nexus Certificate of Operational Readiness. It's how most clients begin working with Nexus — low commitment, high clarity.

What does a Company Health Check assess?

The Health Check covers five key areas: Financial Health (cashflow management, forecasting, reporting quality, controls); Operational Structure (systems efficiency, process clarity, workflow bottlenecks); Governance & Leadership (decision-making frameworks, accountability, board effectiveness); People & Culture (team structure, capability gaps, cultural cohesion); and Growth & Exit Readiness (scalability, pre-due diligence positioning, valuation preparedness). Each area is assessed and RAG-rated to identify strengths and priority improvement areas.

Who should get a Company Health Check?

This is ideal for business owners and founders preparing for growth, investment, or exit; CEOs and MDs seeking an independent view of operational and financial health; leadership teams navigating transition or preparing for due diligence; and businesses typically £1m–£20m turnover in any sector. If you're facing a critical business decision, planning significant growth, or simply want clarity on your current state, a Health Check provides invaluable insight.

How long does a Company Health Check take?

The onsite diagnostic takes one full day with your leadership team. Following the visit, Tony prepares the diagnostic report and action roadmap, which is typically delivered within 5-7 working days. The entire process from booking to receiving your report and certificate usually takes 2-3 weeks, though timelines can be adjusted based on urgency and availability.

What will I receive at the end of the Health Check?

You receive three key deliverables: a RAG-rated Diagnostic Report covering all assessed business areas with clear findings; a Priority Action Roadmap with specific, prioritised recommendations to address risks and strengthen operational readiness; and a Nexus Certificate of Operational Readiness — a credibility marker for investors, buyers, and stakeholders. Together, these provide clarity on current state and a clear path forward.

What is a RAG-rated report?

RAG stands for Red, Amber, Green — a traffic light system that provides clear visual assessment of business areas. Green indicates areas performing well with minimal risk. Amber flags areas requiring attention or improvement. Red highlights critical issues needing immediate action. This format makes it immediately clear where your business is strong and where focus is needed, without wading through pages of text to find the critical points.

What happens after the Company Health Check?

The Health Check is designed as both a standalone diagnostic and a potential starting point for deeper engagement. Many clients use the findings to guide internal improvements independently. Others engage Nexus for ongoing fractional CFO support, operational improvement projects, or strategic advisory work based on the identified priorities. There's no obligation — the value is in the clarity and actionable roadmap you receive.

Is the Company Health Check confidential?

Yes, absolutely. Everything discussed and documented during the Health Check is completely confidential. The diagnostic report is for your use only. While you may choose to share the Certificate of Operational Readiness with stakeholders, investors, or potential buyers, the detailed findings and recommendations remain private to you and your leadership team.

What preparation is needed for a Company Health Check?

Minimal preparation is required. You'll need to arrange for key leadership team members to be available for the day and have basic financial information accessible (management accounts, forecasts, key reports). The process is designed to be efficient and low-burden. Tony will guide the day's structure and knows how to gather necessary information through conversation and document review without requiring extensive pre-work from your team.

How does the charitable donation work?

For every Company Health Check conducted, Nexus donates £25 to each of four charities close to Tony's heart: Robin Cancer Trust, CoppaFeel!, Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT), and Essex Search & Rescue. These donations are made automatically by Nexus — there's no additional cost to clients. It's a way to give back to causes that make a genuine difference in the community while supporting businesses.
